the world's most influential wine critics is alarmed by the high price of Bordeaux wine.
"Bordeaux is focused too much on the wealthy Asian market," Parker said. "Despite the fact that China has so many wealthy people, it's a very dangerous game if they raise prices, because the world economy is very, very fragile."
It would be a "smart move" for top chateaux to sell the 2010 vintage 10 to 20 percent lower than the 2009 vintage, which commanded record prices, he added.
"If they come higher than 2009, we're going to have a big, big crisis."
and guess what: they did come out higher, and not by a bit!

Winespectator will soon announce the wine of the year pick for 2010. As usual the countdown will start with N° 10 on the 15th of November. On Friday the 19th November they will eventually announce the number one wine. Last year Colombia crest took the prize with their Cabernet Sauvignon Colombia Valley Reserve 2005. We where wondering though...what happens to the price of WineSpectators top 5 one year after releasing the awards... It's fairly obvious the number one wine generated the most revenue, but every top5 pick proved to be a nice investment...this year shouldn't be any different.

Chateau Pontet Canet is for sure the most coveted wine after 'the big 8'.
After 2002 the chateau's first wine has never had less than a average score of 90 from the most notorious critics.
Pontet-Canet was included in the famous 1855 classification. This privileged position did not go unnoticed by one of the most important Bordeaux merchants of the time, Herman Cruse, who bought the estate in 1865. He built new cellars, modernised the winemaking facilities, and established the wine's reputation around the world. The Cruse family owned Pontet-Canet for 110 years, until another merchant, Guy Tesseron, acquired it in 1975.
Currently the chateau is owned by Guy Tesseron's sons, Alfred and Gérard, Thirty years after their arrival in Pauillac, the Tesserons can take pride in having gradually restructured the entire vineyard as well as having renovated the cellars and service buildings.
An overview of Pontet Canet greatest vintages.

Americans rarely bought “wine futures” thirty years ago, but that all changed with the 1982s, and it will change for the Asians with the 2009s. They are going to buy these wines.
Forget the first-growths. They have become luxury products, and possess the same prestigious image as Rolls Royce, Bentley, or Aston Martin cars, Roger Dubuis or Berguet watches, or haute couture from Chanel or Christian Dior.
